What is CBT?

desk-discussing-discussion-1311518CBT is a talking therapy which helps us gain insight into how our thoughts can impact on our feelings, physical sensations, what we do and how we behave. At times, it may feel as though we are trapped in a vicious cycle where our problems feel overwhelming and difficult to change.

The aim of therapy is to break this vicious cycle by identifying and altering our unhelpful thinking patterns and changing the way we behave.

The number of sessions I offer depends on your individual needs but they generally range from 6-20 sessions. In the first assessment session, we will discuss your problems and explore what is maintaining them. We will then work together throughout the therapy to help you implement skills and strategies towards reaching your treatment goals. You will be encouraged to take an active part in therapy, by setting yourself weekly tasks to practise outside of the sessions. By carrying these out, you are likely to reach your goals quicker.
